You were braced for it.
The interruption that changes the day.
The knock on the door. Your name called from the other room.
You've navigated around it so often the body just knows the detour.
But the day is wide open. Nothing standing in the way.
And you still moved like the walls were there.
We're good at adapting to conditions.
Less good at noticing when they lift.
The obstacles clear but we keep leaving space for them.
At some point the bottleneck moved inward.
You just didn't notice. You were still watching the door.
Nothing's in the way now.
Except you.
